FAQ's
Do I need to be super fit for this trip? Our itinerary includes a variety of outdoor activities, like hikes, kayaking, and canyoning. While the trip is active, we’ve designed it to be suitable for most fitness levels. The hikes range from easy to moderate in difficulty, with some challenging sections, but nothing too extreme. If you’re in good health and enjoy being outdoors, you’ll have a great time! Just remember, it’s not a race—take it at your own pace and we’ll be with you every step of the way.
Can I come solo? Absolutely! In fact, most of our travelers come solo, and that’s part of the magic. This is a fantastic opportunity to meet like-minded people, make new friends, and share a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Whether you’re traveling alone or with a small group, you’ll feel welcomed and included in our close-knit community.
Is travel insurance required? Yes, we highly recommend that you have **travel insurance** for your trip, especially one that covers adventure activities like hiking and canyoning. It’s always better to be safe than sorry, and having insurance will give you peace of mind throughout your travels. If you don’t already have travel insurance, we suggest looking into options before booking.
Do I need to speak Portuguese? Not at all! While Portuguese is the official language of São Miguel, most locals understand and speak basic English, especially in tourist areas. We’ll help you with any translations or communication needs, and you’ll quickly pick up a few words during the trip (it’s fun and adds to the experience!).
What should I bring with me? We recommend packing for a variety of activities and changing weather. Some essentials include: - Sturdy hiking shoes(the trails can be rugged!). - Comfortable clothing for both outdoor adventures and relaxing. - Waterproof jacket (São Miguel weather is known for being unpredictable). - Swimwear and quick-dry towel (you’ll want to jump in those beautiful hot springs and lakes!). - Sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses for sunny days (it can get pretty hot!). - Small daypack for carrying your water bottle, snacks, and essentials during hikes.
What if I have dietary restrictions? We understand that everyone has different dietary needs, and we will do our best to accommodate vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and other dietary preferences. However, please note that São Miguel’s food scene may not have as many options as larger cities, and some restrictions (like vegetarian or gluten-free) might result in a more limited selection. We recommend bringing some snacks or specialty food items just in case. Feel free to let us know about your dietary needs when you sign up, and we’ll make arrangements wherever possible.
Can I extend my stay in São Miguel before or after the trip? Yes! If you want to explore more of São Miguel (or the Azores), we encourage you to extend your stay. Let us know if you need help with accommodation suggestions, or if you’d like recommendations for things to do on your extra days.
What’s the weather like? São Miguel’s weather is pretty mild, but it can be unpredictable! You’ll experience a mix of sunshine, clouds, and occasional rain (especially in the mountains). Make sure to bring a waterproof jacket and layers to stay comfortable. Expect temperatures to range from 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F), but it can feel cooler in the mountains or after a swim. It’s always a good idea to pack for varying conditions!
